Hito walked through woods at night.  It was Halloween. He had just finished giving aid to a couple of Elites in need of his help.  He was searching the vortex world, wandering all over it.  He found a group of fairies nearby.  They were jack-o-lanterns in capes with gloves, each carrying a small lantern by which to see.

Garm looked at Hito and whined, "What do you want to do?  Go around them?"

Hito smiled and said, " Or I could make myself a new buddy-bud,"

Garm's tongue lolled as he gave the closest thing he could to a sigh.

Hito approached the group, readying a quick mabufu, his most powerful area attack with ice.

"Hello there.  What's up?"

The jack-o-lanterns turned to look at him, and then approached.  Either he would get burned to a smoldering wick or anything number of other things might happen.  He tried to look brave.

"Not much.  What do you want?" one of them said.  Hito noticed a slight difference in colors between them, some more orange or yellow, and others leaning toward a red pumpkin shaped heads.

"Just thought you might want to chat," he said.

"Nope.  Go away." a different one said.

"All right. I understand,"  Hito's brow furrowed.  He could kill all but one and then try to form a pact with it.  That was probably his best bet.

"Spirit of water, serpent of the deep, attend me," he said, motioning with his hand.  A magic circle formed in front of him, and a mizuchi appeared.  The pyro jacks started calmly floated away, but two of them gave him a creepy grin.

"Bring it on," said one with a blue cape and hat.

Hito channeled his energy, and let loose a mabufu.  At the same time one of the jacks shot an agi at Hito.  It missed Hito but grazed mizuchi producing a cloud of steam.  "Mizuchi!" shouted Hito.

Mizuchi quickly coaled around one of the pyro jacks, and inflicted a bite of cold.  The Jack shivered and shuddered.  "I can't move!" it cried.

"How about you talk now?" said Hito to the Jacks.

"Sure, whatever you want!  Please don't hurt us!" one of the pyro jacks said.  He looked like he was crying tears of wax.

"I want to form a pact.  Who wants to travel with me?  You?" he pointed to mizuchi's opponent, "Or you?"  to the pyro jack backing up against a tree.

"No!  Leave us alone!" he said.
Hito paused.  They were both actually crying.  "Crap, I can't just kill them," he whispered,
"Even if they're not like me, they deserve to live.  What a fool and a bully I am,"

"Mizuchi, release him.  Let's go," Hito said.

Mizuchi obeyed, and Hito went off to tend Mizuchi's wounds.  He can't believe what he had done.  Could demons feel the same way as humans?  He struggled to fight his own tears.  He felt less like a human being each day.  Even with his demons, it was hard for him to not feel alone.  Why was he allowed to live when most of the world died?  What was the point of it?  He fell asleep, and for the moment, forgot his troubles, dreaming of a better world.
I created a character called Hitoshura for Multiverse Crisis mush, a text-based game. This Hitoshura is an OC demi-fiend. I don't really play MC Crisis much. I think I'm too.. impatient, I guess? Scenes take so long to find, and I really don't want to invest hours in this game. There are many people who are kind to me, but.. I don't know. I pop back in every once in a while, and then just kind of. disappear. I think it's been months since I logged in, and I don't even know if my login will still work or not.

Still, it's one of the most coherent, long-running environments with a lot of talented players/writers, and the staff is amazing.

I hope it's okay that I put the link in there. Maybe I should've asked their permission?
The struggle I have here is fitting SMT game mechanics to my own views. I've played a lot of Imagine, the MMO, but I kind of humanize the demons into sentient beings that have wants and needs. Also Hitoshura wants to form contracts and make more powerful friends, he struggles because he has the heart of a human. Can he really manipulate these spirits to do his bidding? He may be "demonic" or whatever, in nature, but in the end, it's just a cosmetic, auric change that grants him abilities. He is still human.
